Who is Healthy Little Havana?

Healthy Little Havana aspires to create a health-supportive neighborhood where all Little Havana residents can thrive. Our mission is to support and advocate for efforts that strengthen Miami's Little Havana neighborhood by focusing on the social determinants of health. Based on our Community Action Plan (CAP), our activities are separated into the following four health priority areas:

Our Values —

Collaboration We work as a team, achieving more collectively than individually. We are a cohesive unit setting aside our personal agendas and working toward our shared mission. We are committed to creating synergy by encouraging each other and working collaboratively.

Community We honor relationships and take responsibility for fostering trust, respect, and good will.

Empowerment We are committed to developing the confidence of everyone's individual talents and capabilities, giving individuals greater capacity to take action and make decisions.

Equity We believe that there are some things which people should have, that there are basic needs that should be fulfilled, that burdens and rewards should not be spread too divergently across the community, and that policy should be directed with impartiality, fairness and justice towards these ends.

Integrity We are trustworthy. We are reliable, authentic, and loyal. We do what we say we will do. We have the courage to do the right thing. We welcome accountability and conduct our organization with honesty and transparency.

Our Guiding Principles —

Civic Participation We will assure that residents serve in leadership roles within the organization. We are committed to involving the residents and network of business owners by incorporating empowerment strategies into our projects.

Hire from Within the Community We are committed to having projects that actively include or hire community residents to participate in the development and implementation.

Health in All Policies We will promote the integration of health considerations into policymaking and apply a health lens to all projects and programs.

Communications/Outreach We will connect residents, businesses, and land owners via mass media.
