Local Data for Equitable Communities

To read about our project, visit our Prooject Spotlight on the Urban Institute website, here.

The Local Data for Equitable Communities grant program, a collaboration between the Urban Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, enables nonprofits to use and interpret data to catalyze local action, helping all residents live their healthiest lives.

The program’s selection of 30 community-based organizations will receive $50,000 grants to lead data projects focused on systemic change. While each project is rooted in its own place and purpose, they share a set of core elements:

  • Community leadership: Projects are co-designed and led by residents, organizations, and coalitions who have local knowledge and connections

  • Filling information gaps: Projects will develop new local data that will support case-making and strategy

  • Action focus: Projects are aimed at changing programs, policy, funding, and structural conditions

Learn more about the grantees and follow the Local Data for Equitable Communities blog for the latest insights on how to use local data to address critical community issues such as poor housing conditions, limited access to healthy food, climate risks, and transit access.
